Couple more foley saw filers, f-16 and a f-24.

I have a couple saws I’m working on and I’m almost done. I cant wait to get done because I have a couple of new saw filers to play with. I have a nice running newer 387 and even though I don’t use it much now, I could see using it more in the future if my hands hurt.

So I don’t need another filer, I got another plus parts in storage already, but I wanted an even older style to go with my other older hand crank retoother. The foley 20000 retoother. found these two filers locally and they even still have the older style carriers used with the 20000. At some point I think there was a third filer in the shop they came from, the f24 has a f16 mount casting and I have some extra springs. Only difference in a 16 and 24 is the front casting, one is longer to accommodate a 24 inch diameter circular saw blade. I dont sharpen those so I’ll keep with the 16. I’m going to swap out a couple things from both machines to make one nice one. The one that is complete has a cracked part that despite a brazed fix looks to have cracked again. But the other machine is just fine.

Now I’ll need a f-61 someday just because lol. It came after the 16 and 24 and before the 387. The long arm that moves is longer than the 16 and 24 and I think the same length as the 387. It looks and runs very much like the first two though. The 387 changed a good bit, it runs on dual guides.

Sharpening a 4 foot Roubo saw plate

I had my first day at my new school today. I have a few PD days before kids start showing up and I’m sure I’ll be a bit tired at the end of the day when school officially starts lol.

I’ll still get shop time in when I can, but during these days I’m hoping to finish up a few things. One was sharpening another Roubo saw plate today once I got home. Its exhausting! I sharpen a few inches at a time as I bounce around other projects. Plate is now sharpened, and tomorrow I plan to etch a few saw plates.

Wooden Toy Train

One of the tools I bought a year or two ago had a few old wooden toy plans. One set was for a wooden train and my son loves trains. I showed him the pictures and he got excited and for a few days id cut out pieces from scraps and he would “help” glue them together.

Because of that I bought a wooden toy book and he has gone through it a few times. We made a crane and this week he wanted the Santa Fe train. I’m still getting work done on a few saws but the train was a fun distraction.
