About

My name is Matthew Williams and my wife and I are elementary school teachers. I never thought I’d be a teacher. Out of high school I was a mechanic for a few years. After that I sold car parts for a few more. When I met my wife she was finishing up her degree to be a teacher and it wasn’t long before I wanted to go back to school to finish my degree and decided to also be a teacher. My wife is now in her 11th year of teaching and I taught 1st grade for three years.

Currently I am a stay at home dad to our three year old. We decided that these early years are special and we wanted to take turns staying home with him until he can go to school with us. I still try to substitute teach when I can though, when family can watch him for the day.

##UPDATE as of August 2025! My son turned four over the summer and is now in pre-k. I am also full time teaching again at a brand new Montessori school in our area. My son and I are on a new adventure going to the same school together everyday.##

We moved two years just before he turned one, just south of the DFW area of Texas and my little buddy hangs out with me in the garage a lot. It’s insulated and has its own a/c. He has a box of cut-offs that he builds with, and his own toy tools. Chalk and dry erase markers and other toys are everywhere! As you can imagine, I don’t always get a lot done very fast. Most of my projects get done when he sleeps in or during nap time.

I am obsessed with hand tools and especially hand saws. It’s all my wife’s fault! Seven years ago she bought me my first hand plane as a present after I started looking up traditional woodworking. A little over three years ago we were on vacation and stopped in an antique store. I kept going back and checking out an old Bemaco saw tooth setter. A few weeks after we got home a box arrived, my wife had called them and bought the setter and had it shipped to us for my birthday. It was all downhill from there. I started buying Foley saw machines, pistol grip setters, trip hammer setters, files and jigs. I met and made a new best friend who is even more obsessed with saws than me and we constantly share our latest saw related projects with each other.

Four years ago I started sharpening and making saws and haven’t stopped. I truly 100% enjoy it. If you need a saw, have a saw that needs some TLC or just want to talk saws, please feel free to reach out.
