In the summer of 2025 I found this Logan lathe for $500. It needs one small gear, the back gear assembly and a new bull gear. After looking up used parts prices, and discovering I can also still buy new parts too, I decided that I can still stay within my budget for a lathe and I get to have a fun side project to clean up too.

First is to clean all grime and peeling paint off. I went ahead and cleaned and painted the mating surfaces of the bed and pan so I wouldn’t have to take those apart again later. This will take a while to restore the way I want to but I think it’ll be a great lathe when I’m done.

Removing the peeling paint only showed uneven layers of other paints and I decided to take it to as close to bare metal as I could. What I couldn’t reach with a paint stripping wheel I did by hand. Some paint is left but I made sure to smooth it out and clean and clean and clean some more before my son and I painted the bed.

Towards the end of 2025 I slowly found the more expensive parts I needed for the lathe. Could’ve bought everything sooner but patience helped me save a lot of money.

My newest acquisition, a 2j head bridgeport mill, as I find time I’ll get it nice and cleaned up.
